Social robot engages consumers on effective recycling practices
In June 2019, Peru-based startup Cirsys installed its IRBin (Intelligent Recycle Bin) in front of a supermarket in Miraflores, south of downtown Lima.
The robot is an automatic solid waste sorter with a compacting system. It uses internal sensors to automatically classify and process solid waste, including plastic and glass bottles.
Capable of holding 400 compacted plastic bottles and 200 glass bottles, as well as trash, IRBin also has an interactive screen and a transparent back to engage and educate consumers in the separation and treatment of waste.
Cirsys plans mass production of the robots and wants to roll them out in municipalities, universities, and shopping malls across Peru.
