Diageo launches AI whisky selector
A nice idea from Diageo – exclusively for Asda:
Scan a QR code and answer some questions on flavours/ingredients in order to find the perfect whisky.

Our thoughts:
The ‘powered by AI’ message sounds like a stretch, but it does a decent job of building up a shoppers flavour profile. If they’re clever, Asda & Diageo will use that data to enhance future recommendations.
The ‘buy now’ concept works well and the serving suggestions are great. It even lets you add everything else you might need to make a cocktail.
Arguably the biggest barrier to usage, and therefore purchase, is that a shopper needs to answer 11 questions to get their recommendation. That might be of interest to a shopper passionate about whisky, but then again, why would a whisky connoisseur need to use a platform like this? For the average Bell’s Whisky and mixer drinker, that’s a lot of time and effort.
It would’ve been more beneficial if the service asked first whether or not the purchase is for the shopper or for someone else, and then have the option available of switching into a gift finder. 11 questions might be more justified on a gifting mission.
