Carrefour uses blockchain to track milk to its source
France-based supermarket chain Carrefour launched a traceable fresh micro-filtered full-fat milk in March 2019.
The Carrefour Quality Line product includes QR-code-equipped bottles that can be read by an app. Information available includes the GPS coordinates of where the cow was fed and milked, as well as when and where the milk was collected and packaged.
Carrefour is using IBM Food Trust, a purpose-built blockchain software, to track food supply chains. It previously rolled out the technology for chicken, tomatoes and oranges.
